Ethics FAQ: FAQ

WILL YOU TELL MY PARENTS WHAT WE TALK ABOUT IN THERAPY?

The sessions we have together are confidential, and I hope to create a space where you feel safe to express and share what is happening for you in your life. However, if you share something with me that involves me to believe you are in danger (you are being abused, at risk to hurting yourself), I will have to break confidentiality and share that information with your parents to help keep you safe.

ARE MY SESSIONS WITH YOU COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL?

Our sessions together will remain confidential between you and I unless you have shared with me that you are at risk of harming yourself or others, if a child is in need of protection, or for legal purposes. If you are interested in sharing confidential information with a loved one, and would like support that is something I am happy to help you with.

WHAT WILL YOU DO IF WE HAPPEN TO MEET IN PUBLIC?

I honour your comfort level. As your counsellor, your confidentiality and comfortability is my first priority. If you see me out in public, and wish to say hello to me, please feel free to do so.

I am grateful to live, work, learn and play upon the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation.
