MY THOUGHTS ON...

Diversity, personal assumptions & worldviews, how problems develop, & research methodologies

DIVERSITY

I work from a variety of different models that are specific and individualistic to the needs of each person. First and foremost, I believe clients are the experts in their own lives. I get to have the pleasure of walking through your journey with you. I get to empower you, cheer you on and help you discover that you have all the answers you need within. I work from an eclectic approach that allows me to be able to provide flexibility and an offer an approach that caters to the unique needs of each person. My goal is to work collaboratively together to create and ensure that your goals and care plan feels right for you. We will work together to start from where you’re currently at in your healing journey, we will focus on the present moment, with a growth mindset for where you are headed. I will be walking alongside you every step of the way.

PERSONAL ASSUMPTIONS/WORLDVIEWS

Human’s need and thrive with connection, love, and support. If we lack connection, love and/or support we are imbalanced. In turn, this can lead to all kinds of feelings (lost, defeated, stuck, depressed, angry, confused, etc.). I believe that with the right tools and supports in place we can slowly start to gain the confidence, feel better about ourselves, and begin our healing journey.
I believe that all people are truly doing the best they can with what they know, the situations they find themselves in, and with the tools they have. No one is perfect, we all need extra help, and support every now and again. That is what human existence is about, isn’t it? Reaching out and asking for help when we need it. But I know how difficult, and how vulnerable that first step can be. I want you to know I’m here for you, let’s start your healing journey together. You are not alone.

HOW PROBLEMS DEVELOP

I believe that we all run into challenges and problems in our lives that the universe throws at us, because it knows we can handle them. Big and small. I believe that the universe only gives us what we can truly handle. It’s how we choose to manage, cope, and move through these trials and tribulations that determines the size of the problem and the outcome.  Although, sometimes it can feel like the world testing and against us. Some of the problems we may face might seem impossible to get through, some problems may seem like they’re unmanageable to deal with, or we may even feel lost and like we have no one to turn to. Those feelings and are emotions are okay, and you are not alone. I believe that it is okay to sit with those thoughts and feelings you have for a while, but when you feel like you can no longer manage life’s everyday tasks, is when life’s challenges become problems. I believe, sometimes we need to surrender to these problems and ask for support from a non-bias person, who we can trust with our rawest moments and vulnerabilities.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES

One of the beautiful things about working alongside people, is that humans are always evolving, growing, learning, and changing. In turn, so is the research that helps to support, guide, and provide evidence and validity to the ongoing work in a therapeutic setting.
I base the work that I do with people from an evidenced-based approach in conjunction with using the power and key element of a therapeutic alliance. I appreciate authenticity and believe that when people feel safe in a relationship is when vulnerability is created, change can begin to happen. I believe in the importance of remaining up to date with current research, scholarly articles, peer reviewed literature, and feedback from clients as the main sources that guides the work that I do with people. I believe that staying current on research and therapeutic approaches evokes new ideas, perspectives, and supports the clinical work counsellors set out to do. Help people create changes and find the strength they have from within.
